If you don't have a bash at something because you're scared of failure then you'd never achieve anything. That's what they say, albeit perhaps with a tad more eloquence.

Looming over us right now are 22 of the most revered, respected, feared and highest alpine roads. Roads with history. Roads scarred by the greatest cycling battles ever to have taken place. Roads which have made grown men cry. Roads which are synonymous with suffering - Stelvio, Alpe d'Huez, Galibier, Bonette, Gavia. It's a roll call of drama and pain.

And yet the beauty of roads laid ribbon-like across high mountain passes belies the exertion required to conquer them. So we keep going back. And this year it's Epic. #AlpsEpic.

About the Rider: rosslovell
He runs, he rides, he kayaks - what doesn't this Giant of the Road do? After traversing Europe in 2012 as part of the Accelerace Challenge, Ross recently completed the 2013 Absa Cape Epic, and hopes to complete further leg-breaking bike rides this year. Also very good with a camera.
